The building system is sophisticated: the minimum weight limit imposed by the rules makes the use of high-tech materials such as carbon and Kevlar in fiberglass sandwich, possibly laminated under vacuum. This system is not very suitable to DIY. Alternatively you can build it in strip planking, slightly heavier but more suitable for amateur construction.
The SAM is not suitable as a cruise boat, even if a “Spartan” sports crew might use it occasionally also for this scope – as long as it is clear that its main purpose is that of a nautical camping boat, rather than a real cruiser.
